Wild Cherry or Gean - Prunus avium
The Wild Cherry is a small deciduous tree that is found throughout all parts of the UK apart from northern Scotland.
The tree can be identified by its smooth purple-brown bark that has grey-brown horizontal stripes on young trees which become black-brown and fissured with maturity.
The leaves are serrated with a green top-side and finely downy beneath.
It produces flowers with pure white petals and yellow stamens in spring and round, red edible fruit in the summer.
